“Headhunters” CragRats Year 10 Careers Day at SGS

Our Year 10 students participated in a highly successful Careers day last week, facilitated by our ongoing partnership with LincHigher. Students explored goal setting and how to achieve career ambitions.

The workshops were very well received from all of our students and included modules on ‘personal branding’ and how this is conveyed in person, on paper and online. Students also developed important skills in CV writing and building a personal record of achievement. This extended into Personal Statement writing and interview techniques. The importance of interview technique is something we develop at regular times over the CAEIG programme and all the way up to Sixth Form. On the day some of our brave Year 10 students were interviewed live on the stage and received great feedback from the facilitators. The final event involved team working skills and delegation. These skill are often used by employers for recruitment so it was fascinating to see our students working together and getting out of their comfort zones.

Here is a taste of what some of our students thought about the day:

“Brilliant day. I learnt so much about myself and my career plans into Medicine”

“It was fun and something I’ve never done before – really enjoyed it”

“I didn’t really have much idea about a career pathway until now – thanks to this event I have some good ideas”

“I enjoyed working as a team and winning the team challenge – it’s all about delegation!”
