SGS Netball girls excel at DRET Winter Cup

It was an early start for SGS Football and netball athletes for the first major DRET sports event of the year but students and staff  very excited for the day ahead.
The Winter Cup, as ever, was a fantastic day of sport with the greatest talent from across the region and the trust on display. From Y7's first experience at a DRET competition to old timers in the 6th Form competition the SGS performance was one to be proud of, as always.
Overall the school finished in 4th position but with teams performing above and beyond their expectations and all athletes representing the school in a fantastic light showing exceptional behavior and sportsmanship, staff and students have a lot to be proud of.

Congratulations to all students involved particularly to our plate winners and our champions on the day.

Y8 girls had a re-run of a very close league fixture earlier in the week in the final managing to overcome Barnes Wallis in the final 5 seconds of the game! Our 6th form girls overcame a tricky group of national Basketball players in a very physical final to run out champions of their section. A brilliant display from all involved.

SGS had the chance to select two 'Players of the day'. Congratulations to Alisha Beall, Year 8, who showed prolific form throughout the whole day to contribute a huge amount to her teams overall victory. Also to Marcus Upjohn who was the goal keeper for Year 11 and was involved in a penalty shoot out game - despite losing the shoot out he saved an extraordinary 6 penalties!!
