Vickerman visit a huge success!
Former England Rugby 7's Captain, Rob Vickerman, spent the day at SGS thanks to DRET last Thursday!
Rob has been playing rugby since the age of 5 years old, he has played both Rugby Union and Rugby 7's and represented Leeds and Newcastle Falcons Rugby clubs as well as gaining many international caps. An injury unfortunately cut his career short prematurely but now as well as studying for a Masters degree Rob spends his time working for the RFU as an Ambassador for the game, mentor, speaker and coach.
Rob really enjoys working with DRET and was a guest at last years Spring Cup where SGS came out Champions and he also met some of our boys at the recent Rugby Talent day.
We were lucky enough to have him for the whole day at SGS last week.
Rob spent the morning with three local primary schools, Friskney All Saints, Richmond and Viking School, teaching them the core values and skills associated with the game. He then worked with the U13, U15 and Y11 7's squads on improving their cohesion and techniques.
We also held a VIP lunch at which Rob was the guest speaker! Twenty lucky students who have been the most committed Rugby players so far this year were given the chance to attend a lunch with Rob and ask any questions that they had as well as listening to Rob's many stories about school, university, professional and international sport.
The boys of SGS had a thoroughly enjoyable day and took a lot away from their experiences. Thank you to both Rob and to DRET for opening up these opportunities for us!
